Abstract
A characterization of the morphometry of Trachemys scripta callirostris is given, in which sexual dimorphism is high lighted. The analysis is based on lineal measurements and animal weigth. The females recorded greater average measurements than the males in all variables, except in the precloacal length and in the nails of the fore limbs. The dimorphism seems to play an important role in the intraspecific recognition and could determine different defense strategies for each sex. The females rely on their strength and resistance whereas the males rely on their speed. Melanism is present in both sexes and doesn´t appear to be related to age.
